Honestly searching?

Christianity is THE true religion. To find a church that teaches Biblical truth:

1) It starts with prayer. Ask God to lead you to church where the Holy Spirit is present.

2) Investigate. Google the name of churches/denominations online to see if there is much controversy over their teachings. (Are they frequently called a cult? Do they have some obviously unbiblical teachings?) Does the church have a website? Perhaps you can listen to online sermons?

3) Study. Listen carefully to the passages used in a sermon. Is the focus on the Scriptures? When you get home, read these passages more in depth to be certain nothing was taken out of context. Perhaps, even look for online commentaries on the passages, to compare and contrast different views.

4) Trust God over man. If something doesn't feel right then leave, even if you've started to get comfortable at that church.

5) Continue to do your OWN study of the Bible so that you can grow in your relationship with God. The more you do this, the more clear it will be to you when something isn't right.

I can't emphasize this enough: It's ALL about searching for God and trusting Him! If you put your faith in Him (instead of religious leaders opinions), He will NOT let you down.

Only a suggestion: Many former cult members find Calvary chapels to be a "safe" place to start their search since Calvary pastors read straight from the Bible, chapter-by-chapter, so you'll know right away if something is being taken out of context. Don't feel guilty for being untrusting of preachers. It is noble to scrutinize religious leaders! (see Acts 17:11)
